Koke Leaves Houston Dynamo

The Houston Chronicle has confirmed that Spanish forward Koke has left the Houston Dynamo. The player, who joined Houston after buying our his contract with Greek side Aris Thessaloniki FC, informed coach Dominic Kinnear on Saturday that he wanted out of his contract. Dynamo officials responded by requesting that Koke stick around a bit longer and give the MLS a shot, but he declined.

News of the split was, perhaps, first revealed on Koke’s Facebook as reported by Dynamo Theory writer Zach Woosley. In short, Koke was unhappy and wished to return to his family and friends in Europe. Dynamo officials have already contacted the league about canceling Koke’s contract. That contract would have spiked considerably had the Dynamo kept him beyond July, but the club had already decided they weren’t going to make him a designated player beyond that point. As a result, Koke would, more than likely, have been gone in July anyway.

During his stint with the Dynamo, Koke earned two starts and scored one goal. His goal came in his debut, when he poked in a rebound that fell at his feet. Koke showed excellent technical skills in his time in Houston, but it wasn’t enough to overcome his lack of pace, which was exposed by the bigger, faster MLS defenders.

Houston now must figure out what they are going to do without the creative striker. Kinnear was at the El Salvador and Honduras match over the weekend and the club is believed to be exploring options on some of the players that appeared in the game.
